Federico Díaz
Czech artist Federico Diaz created this beautiful sculpture in Prague where it was then disassembled, shipped, and installed in West Sacramento, overlooking the Sacramento River on the bike trail by The Barn in an area called The Bridge District. It’s wild to think the artist himself didn’t install it (according to this article by The Bee, he didn’t have the right American contractor’s insurance to do so) but clearly the local workers followed his instructions well because it’s magnificent!
The shiny and shimmering piece is made up of thousands of dangling metal coin-like medallions and we got really lucky and had a rare windy Summer evening the night we went to shoot the match. The wind is key! It creates reflections, movement, and even brings about a faint yet whimsical chime-line tune as the wind whips by.
I posted a sneak peek of this match on my Instagram stories recently and I was blown away at how many locals have not seen this sculpture! It’s definitely not something you’d see every day on your commute etc but that's exactly why you should go out of your way to see it! The Bridge District has a lot to offer, so go check it out!
The best way to see the sculpture is either by bicycle or you can park in West Sacramento by Raley Field and walk over to it! I would also suggest stopping over at Drake’s for a refreshment, too!
