Maren Conrad
Cars and murals typically do not mix well but I’m proud to say: I’ve found a loophole! You’ve heard me gripe about how aggravating it can be when there’s a car blocking a mural I’m trying to match. Drives me nuts! Usually I have to maneuver my way around the parked car so it’s out of view for my shot and sometimes I’ll even have to return to the mural on another day to avoid cars altogether!
However! If there’s ONE time I can have a car in my match, it’s with Maren Conrad’s Koi mural that spans the west facing back side of the MARRS Building in Midtown, Sacramento. You see, there just so happens to be a custom painted Art Gig from GIG Car Share that perfectly matches the mural. Now that’s what I’m talking about!
If you aren’t familiar with GIG Car Share and you live in Sacramento or San Francisco, it’s time to get acquainted. Gigs are incredibly easy to use: you open their App, find a car, and go! Their cars are eco-friendly, so no worrying about fuel. Plus, insurance and parking are included! They’re far more comfortable and practical than bikes or scooters, especially when you need to run errands, haul things like groceries, or go somewhere with a group of friends. Best of all, they are affordable: you only pay for what you use and there are no membership fees! If you’re interested in checking out a Gig, use my code DRESSED to get a $30 credit. For new members only valid through 3/31/20.
A few months back you might remember that I took Ricky Watt’s Art Gig for a spin to check out all of the new murals in progress for Wide Open Walls. You can see the match I did with his car at the Crocker Art Museum’s ART MIX in August below!
That night, Maren Conrad did a live painting demonstration where she painted another Art Gig with her signature koi fish, and I’ve been dying to match it ever since!
Fast forward a few months, I finally found a dress to match the mural and the Art Gig. I really wanted to the dress to mimic the fish scales so I opted for this scalloped Aijek gown in black and white. I’m so happy with the result. For someone who would typically get super flustered by a car in a match, I’m giving myself a pat on the back for flipping script and featuring a car head on!
A big thanks to GIG Car Share for sponsoring this match. The thoughts and opinions are my own.
