John Horton

This mural by John Horton in Midtown, Sacramento was painted in 2017 and let me tell you - I’ve been trying to match it since it was painted! So, you can probably imagine my excitement / relief when I found this used dress on The Real Real a few weeks ago.

The mural’s palette is extremely bold and unusual. The jade green mixed with the swashes of red are definitely not your typical combo as far as fashion is concerned. I just love how the colors work together in the mural, but they really posed a huge challenge for me when trying to find a dress to match the piece. To make my search even more difficult, the figurative element and extremely graphic / geometric nature of the piece required me to find something that would emulate the “glitch” effect that John is so well-known for. I felt like I wouldn’t be doing the mural or John justice if I didn’t at least try to find a dress that played off this optical illusion.
