Hello!

Welcome to Dressed To Match. I’m Michelle and I coordinate my outfits to match pieces of art!

If I had to pick ONE museum that is my absolute favorite ever, it would be Museum Voorlinden. I realize that is a huge statement but I absolutely loved it there.

I’ve been following the museum since it opened in 2016 and became rather infatuated with it (ha!) when I saw that Wayne Thiebaud was having an exhibition there in 2018. Lucky for me, while Sean and I were planning our honeymoon we decided that Amsterdam would be one of the cities we would visit. From there, the countdown was on!

Fast-forward to October 2019: we arrived in Amsterdam, the last leg of our European tour. By this time we had been on trains planes and automobiles and I won’t lie - I was a little burnt out from all of the travel. I can’t believe I actually hesitated when it came time to go to Museum Voorlinden, but I did because the museum is actually in Wassenaar, which is about a 50 minute drive from Amsterdam. Since we didn’t have a car our options were about a 2 hour walk / train combo or a 50 minute, $75 Uber ride. Thankfully Sean insisted we go, no matter the cost and time and thank god for him because I could have gone back and forth all day long.

Once we got there I was instantly thrilled. In the future I would probably fly from Sacramento to go there so the 50 minutes ultimately DID NOT matter!

The museum grounds are beautiful. The modern architecture is set off by a natural landscape that is lush and picturesque. Inside, the museum is easily navigable and pristine. Their “Less Is More” exhibition features modernist works which are both lovely to look at and fun to interact with.

I was obviously drawn to the very specific pieces I wanted to match, including Ron Mueck’s hyperreal sculptures of bathers.
