Olafur Eliasson
IG geotags play a huge role in the #dressedtomatch process.
Uhhh, but what does that even mean? If I'm going on a trip or I have plans to visit a specific museum, I'll use the geotag feature on IG so I can see what's currently on display via other users' posts. If you're not familiar with geotags, you can search a specific location on IG which essentially acts as a filter so you can view content that has been tagged at that particular place. From there you can filter through the "top" (most-liked?) or "recent" posts.
As this applies to DTM, I typically bookmark any posts that feature pieces of art that have matching potential and I'll sort of memorize them visually. From there, the dress hunt begins.
Why am I sharing this with you?? Well, because this installation by Olafur Eliasson is BY FAR the most popular piece I see featured in posts via @sfmoma's geotag. It's bright, it's happy, it's unique and it's just straight-up cool. Thanks to social media, it has become one of the museum's most iconic pieces in its permanent collection. The suspended prismatic passage is located on the 6th floor and can be seen from below at the entrance of the museum. It's truly a vibrant experience as you walk through triangular glass and acrylic panels that beam with refracted light!
Put this piece on your must-see list next time you visit the museum!
