Hello!

Welcome to Dressed To Match. I’m Michelle and I coordinate my outfits to match pieces of art!

I love the challenge of matching, but I must say - the bump has added a new level of complexity to my process! I've been hanging on to this dress since before the pandemic began and have been SO EXCITED to wear it with Gerhard Richter’s piece, 256 Farben (256 Colors), at SFMOMA. You can find this piece on the 6th floor in their display of German Art After 1960.

If you’ve been following me for awhile, this is actually the second time I’ve matched this piece. Here’s a link to my first match, where I wore a pair of heels to match the painting! Shoe matches aren’t go-to so I figured I would wear a dress for my second attempt.

Despite my initial vision for this match, I was challenged again quite quickly. I tried the dress on before my trip to the museum and it was pretty clear that the dress was absolutely NOT going to work unless I did some crazy modifications. It was not pretty! Luckily I was able to think outside the box before going to town on it with my scissors and was shocked to find that I could wear the dress as a skirt! Phew!

I just love how this one turned out!
